Winter Park Resort – How Much Snow For the 2009 & 2010 Ski Season? What Will El Nino Bring?
What does the 2009/210 ski season hold in store for Winter Park Resort? It is an El Niño year so what will the snowfall pattern be?
Winter Park Resort usually receives an average of 359 inches of snow a year. ski season 2008/2009 there was 378 of snow with lots of that coming in the April and May months. El Niño climate is typically drier in the Northern parts of North America and very wet in the southern areas from Texas to Florida. For the central mountains of Colorado it is a little ambiguous. The last El Niño year Winterpark received a ton of early snow with a drier than normal January and February with a killer March and April. This was a mild El Niño in 2005/2006.
Here are the yearly snowfall totals at the resort for the last ten years in inches:
2007-2008 389.2
2006-2007 302.5
2005-2006 365.0
2004-2005 292.7
2003-2004 268.7
2002-2003 410.7
2001-2002 246.2
2000-2001 362.0
1999-2000 341.0
1998-1999 299.4
Not a bod year in 2005/2006 but lats hope we get a year like 2002/2003. Anytime there are over 400 inces of snow here in Winterpark it is an epic year.
So how much if the white fluffy stuff will we get this year? Well I think I can guess as well as any if the weatherman on the television or internet and I am going to say that Winter Park ski area will receive around 378 inches of wonderful powder this year!
