Turkey Hotels – Where to Stay in 2010

Turkey has become an increasingly popular holiday destination over the last couple of years, yet for many holidaymakers it remains a mysterious and intriguing choice. This is a country that uniquely spans two continents. Known as the place where ‘East meets West’, it offers both the familiar and the very exotic in an eclectic mix. Visitors will find welcoming Turkey hotels in a variety of locations, from busy international cities to quiet hill top villages. Here is a selection of some of the popular and up and coming areas in Turkey at the moment:

Antalya

This seaside city is known for its beaches, historic centre and convenient location. As a modern hub of transportation it provides a strong starting point for exploration of Turkey’s Mediterranean coastline. Meanwhile, the surrounding area gives access to the stunning Koprulu Canyon National Park as well as a number of historic sites.

Bodrum

The attractive port of Bodrum, with its air of exclusivity and varied contemporary and cultural attractions, has historically captured the attention of wealthy and artistic types in particular. Located on the south west coast of Turkey its position as a gateway to the Greek islands gives it added appeal. Meanwhile, as the former site of the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it has plenty to offer in the historical stakes too.

Dalaman

This small southern town, which is home to an international airport and a farm that is headquartered in an old railway station building, could be considered a curious holiday choice. It has become an increasingly popular in recent years, however, due to its breathtaking surroundings. The Dalaman district’s majestic mountains, lakes, historical attractions and picture-postcard part of the ‘turquoise coast’ are obvious lures for holidaymakers wanting to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Fethiye district

Holiday gems such as Olu Deniz, Hisaronu and Ovacik can be found in this southern district. All three are laid back resorts with enough infrastructure to comfortably sustain holidaymakers, without going over the top. Olu Deniz boasts one of Turkey’s most celebrated coastlines with its crown jewel being the intense and beautiful ‘blue lagoon’. Nearby in the hills is the quiet village of Hisaronu and next to that the even quieter Ovacik, where Turkey hotels can be found nestled among the trees providing the ideal base for those who just want to escape from it all for a while.
