The State Parks of Skyland, Virginia
When many people would hear the words Skyland, Virginia they most often would associate it with southern country living. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains this place is known for the rugged beauty, which has inspired generations. This can be seen by looking no further than the different state parks that are within driving distance of Skyland.
Kings Mountain
This location offers visitors the chance to experience history the way it was during the 18th and 19th century, with the park being known as one of the key battlefields of the Revolutionary War. As a result, many of the different cabins and structures allow visitors the chance to see what life was like on the American frontier. There are also many different outdoor activities that the entire family can engage in these would include: horseback riding, camping, hiking and fishing.
Natural Tunnel
This area has the most notable distinction of having a naturally formed 850 ft. long by 100 ft. high tunnel, hence the name. Visitors are allowed to take chairlifts to the tunnel, but are not allowed inside. This is because trains go through the naturally made tunnel. There are numerous activities that the entire family can enjoy when they are visiting the park these would include: camping, picnicking and swimming. There are a total of 23 camp sites in the park and 18 sites for RV’s, all of which have full electric along with water.
James River
This location offers a whole host of activities that the entire family can enjoy. These would include: fishing, hiking, hunting, camping and you can even go canoeing. During the summer is when the park truly come alive offering a whole host of events that bring out the tradition that Virginia is known for, to include: camp fires, wagon rides and historical events. Together all of these different elements make the park one of the more popular places to visit and is defiantly worth some serious consideration.
Skyland, Virginia has many different scenic, state parks that are within close proximity. The most notable would include: Kings Mountain State Park, Natural Tunnel State Park and James River State Park. Together these parks offer the entire family a number of different activities that will make the entire experience a memorable one.
