Shipping a Car
Shipping a Car is often a good choice when you are moving and don’t have the ability to drive a car a long ways to your new destination. Especially if you are moving across the country or to a different country, packing everything up and flying to your new home is stressful enough without needing to deal with driving a car a 1000 miles or more which will take several days. Many companies specialize in shipping cars and usually use enclosed tractor trailers that will be your car secured and safely from road damage and vandalism along the way. When shipping cars between countries, it’s common for the car to be sent by boat. This can take longer since it’s more difficult to coordinate an entire boat versus just a single trailer with a couple of cars inside. Have a car shipped can be expensive, but this may be worth it in order to avoid driving it yourself.
The other advantage is that it does not put additional miles on the car and won’t cost you any gas money. If you are relocating for work and your employer is paying for it, it’s possible that they may include a car shipment in your relocation allocation since they probably don’t want you to miss work while you drive your car across the country! It’s also possible to pay someone to drive your car. This can be a bit cheaper, but you will need to put miles on the car, and there’s a greater chance of problems happening with someone you don’t know driving the car for long distances. You can often find people on Craigslist who will drive the car cheaply but make sure that you can trust them!
