Self-Catering Accommodations – Cape Town

Families and people who don’t enjoy the rigid time schedules of hotels will easily find a variety of choices for self-catering accommodation in Cape Town.

Private people, as well as timeshare groups and rental agencies, usually, have these types of accommodation on their books. Ninety percent of them will also have a website where you can research and look at photos of specific places.

If you do a web search you will see that many of the self- catering accommodations are rated these days. It is mostly based on the rates of people who made use of the facilities and who better to judge than somebody that actually stayed there.

There will hardly be an area in Cape Town where you won’t find self- catering facilities. This can vary from a block of apartments, managed by a timeshare group, such as RCI or a private owner with a cottage or two on the premises.

If you are prepared to stay a bit outside the city, the wine farms around Stellenbosch and Somerset-West have a great country feeling. Stellenbosch is about 50 kilometers from Cape Town and if you choose Muratie, an age old working farm, you will even have a view of Table Mountain while relaxing in the country.

Self catering accommodation in the city itself is to pick and choose from. Two of the trendiest areas in the city are De Waterkant and Bo-Kaap. You will have one of the best views of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront from here. The harbor lights at night deliver a fairyland magic where words can’t reach. The renovations in this area changed it from a crumbling, dilapidated ready- to- be- demolished spot to a quaint traveler’s village with 300 year old cobbled stone streets, huge trees, elegant street cafes and restaurants. The Bo-Kaap oozes culture and with its multi-colored cottages and steep narrow roads it tells the tales of the past.

The area nestling on the edge of the Alfred and Victoria Waterfront hosts a variety of luxury apartments for rental. This will place you right were the action is. You can literally shop till you drop at the waterfront and there is a choice from designer-made to authentic local produce. Most boat rides depart from here and the overall atmosphere is exhilarating and captivating.

Sea Point and Green Point hinge more towards budget accommodation and while some people label these areas, as well as the inner city as less safe areas you would find it hard to believe if you take note of the locals walking around long after sunset without any concerns. There are many taxis and buses going from Green Point and Sea Point towards the city and waterfront for your convenience, when you stay around these areas.

No matter whether you decide to stay in or maybe just outside the city, you will be within easy reach of all Cape Town’s major attractions. Some will be within walking distance while others might need some driving. Each of these areas has its own unique features that will make your stay unforgettable.
