Get to Know La Digue Island

La Digue is one of the many islands of Seychelles. The island is situated not far from Praslin and is easily reachable in twenty minutes by boat

Once you arrive on the island, the first things you will notice are the oxcarts, the main mode of transport in La Digue. There are very few cars on the island, so you may forget about getting a car to drive you around. You can hire bicycles instead to reach places that might be more difficult with the oxcart.

La Digue has over two thousands inhabitants which makes it the third most populated and is the fourth largest island of the Seychelles. The island has many hotels that provide comfortable and luxurious accommodation with the most popular being La Digue Island Lodge.

Most famous for its mind-blowing landscape, La Digue has unique rock formations that reach down to the sea. The granite rocks that have worn out with time and sea water are now spectacular structures that are almost unreal. The island is surrounded by white sand beaches on which you will love to sit and watch the sun set.

If you want some adventure, you can climb to the top of the mountain at the center of the island, you will get a wonderful view of the island and the sea can be seen from every angle.

There is also a small church called “The Lady of our Assumption” that is almost a hundred years old. The church is not far from the Port and just south of La Digue Island Lodge.

If you plan to visit the island do not forget to bring your camera as it will come in handy almost all the time. Once you have been to La Digue Island you would probably want to go back again.
