El Plantio Golf Course is situated in the Torrevieja and Alicante area of Spain in Costa Blanca. It has been brilliantly designed by Manuel Ferri Sanchez and was opened for play in 1993. It is an attractive golf course between Alicante City and the airport. El Plantio is an exceptional course in the region as it has been designed on a natural conservation region. Original plant species have been replanted carefully and this offers the golf course an exotic ambience and every hole is one of its kind. The course extends to 750,000 m2 area and has over 45,000 old trees which include locust, palm and olive with numerous flowering plants and bushes. The course is still in the process of maturing and with little housing near the property; golfers can enjoy the natural countryside in peace.

Golf at El Plantio originally started with a 9-hole course back in 1993 and since then another 18 holes have been added. The 18-hole section was designed by Manual Ferry and opened in the year 2000, benefiting a lot from the impressive setting. The main course, built in 2000, is a test to all golfers and there are many quality holes. You can see the spectacular panorama of Murcia and Alicante from many of the holes. El Plantio is an excellent challenge for all level of golfers as it has different tee positions for the convenience of all golfers. This club is worth a visit with its striking clubhouse and friendly atmosphere.

Two lakes come into play in the back nine holes and there are few water hazards on the initial nine. You will have to be extra careful on the 10th, 12th, 15th and 17th as they require skilful shot over the water bodies and a wayward shot will find its watery grave. The best challenge starts from the 13th, which is a short par 4 with an artificial waterfall halfway through the fairway. It also leads to an uphill approach to the green which is about 100 metres long.

The 14th hole is an attractive but long par 3 and has a mountain along the length of the left side of the hole. The 15th is a par 5 with an elevated tee, and needs a huge tee shot to be able to reach the green in two shots.

The greens are big in size as are the tees and fairways giving the appearance of a lot of space. The design of the golf course as well as the maintenance are impeccable. The unevenness of the course offers excitement and thrill to all golfers. You will be surprised that that such a long course has very few bunkers, but they have been placed very strategically and play a decisive role. The 2 large lakes are the main hazard and if you overcome them successfully it will give you the feeling of triumph in this natural surrounds.
