Ever-sunny holiday hotspot Greece may not be at the top of many lists when it comes to well-known golfing destinations, but it proves an unlikely winner for those who do take the plunge and head to its cluster of island’s with a spot of golfing in mind. The game of golf here is rapidly expanding, with courses and luxury golf hotels increasingly catering for Greece’s consistently strong army of active travelers.
Combine the facilities with the country’s year-round hospitable climate, and you have an emerging destination ready to take on the big hitters of the golf travel world.
Hotels
The Elounda Peninsula All Suite Hotel arguably leads Greece’s legion of luxury golf hotels, boasting, as it does, its very own 9-hole golf course. This is an overtly kid-friendly hotel, which means you can either book your children in for a golf lesson while you hit your way round the greens, or make the most of the extensive baby sitting service offered.
The hotel is also an all-out active place; if you or your kids don’t fancy playing golf one day, there’s always multiple tennis courts, a well-equipped gym, and an indoor and an outdoor pool where you can get your daily fix of fitness.
Other luxury golf hotels in Greece include the designer-swish Corfu Palace Hotel in (as the name suggests) Corfu, and the uber-trendy Ekies All Senses Resort in Sithonia Vourvourou.
Courses
The Glyfada Golf Club in Athens is probably Greece’s most recognized course, having hosted a handful of PGA-recognized tournaments in the past.
