It extends eastward from Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and southward from the Arctic Ocean to the hills of north-central Kazakhstan and borders of China and Mongolia.

You may have heard of the seven summits of the world, the highest mountains in each of the seven continents: Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Denali, Vinson, and of course Mt Everest. Moab’s red-rock country attracts millions of outdoor enthusiasts every year. It has become a world-renowned destination for adventurers who enjoy photography, hiking, whitewater rafting and, in the more recent future, mountain biking.
But it has also become popular for off-road four-wheeling. And famous for the Moab Easter Jeep Safari.
Each year, during the week leading up to Easter, thousands of off-road four-wheel drive devotees gather in Moab’s red-rock country for the Moab Easter Jeep Safari.
My family always knows it’s that time of year as my wife has had a jeep soft-top repair business for years.

Getting to the Machu Picchu ruins is a bit of a mission at the best of times (I think that was the idea when the Incas built it). Hiking to the ruins is a genuine challenge but increasingly the challenge is more to do with beating all the other tourists to book and then finding your own space on the crowded trail. This lost city has certainly been found, and by a staggering number of tourists.
On my trip to the ruins I never expected to have to join an orderly queue in order to reach the Sun Gate after four days of hiking in the wilderness.

I remember back in the States I would arrive at the bus stop, check the bus schedule that was posted there and sit down patiently for my bus to arrive. The schedule said that my bus was going to arrive at 9:17 am and sure enough, at 9:16 am, I see it approaching from a block away. I hear that familiar hissing of the breaks as it calmly comes to a stop in front of me and lets me on board.
