Sailing in a Leaking Yacht on the Tasman Sea to New Zealand

November 2004

Two days before the Melbourne Cup 7am at Coffs Harbour marina. We are loading our personal stuff onto the yacht, it’s a beautiful day and we are about to set off on a trip of a lifetime 1100 nautical miles across the ditch to New Zealand.

The skipper has spent the last two months getting the boat (31ft Swanson) ready – new rigging, engine checked out, radios VHF and HF checked by experts. We have enough stores on board for two weeks, should only take a week if we get the right conditions.

We say goodbye to family and friends and off we go.
