A Piece of Paradise in Florida

Sarasota, Florida is on the southwest Florida’s Suncoast and was named by Money magazine as one of the nation’s 15 most livable communities. The year-round good weather, beaches with famous white sand and water sports, five star resorts, shopping, the charm of a southern town with big city conveniences (which appeals to both visitors and residents), several barrier islands (keys) between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico (the largest being Longboat Key), gardens, and much more, all make Sarasota a delightful place to visit or live.

Probably one of the most well-known landmarks in Sarasota is The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. John Ringling bequeathed his mansion, estate, and art collection to the people of Florida at the time of his death in 1936. It was neglected for many years until its governance was changed from the State of Florida to the Florida State University, which ended up by 2007 transforming the Ringling estate into one of the largest museum/university complexes in the nation. You can tour the magnificent mansion, a Learning Center, the historic Asolo Theater, and more.

The Sarasota Jungle Gardens is 10 acres of tropical vegetation and trails to explore. You can see many rare and endangered birds, Florida crocodiles, etc. You can enjoy reptile and bird shows that are put on twice daily. Their “Kiddie Jungle” includes a haunted tree, a tree house, and even a wooden train!!

Another children-friendly event is the Circus Sarasota with big-top winter performances and a summer theatre show.
For those seeking cultural enrichment, there are international film festivals, numerous art galleries, the Sarasota Opera, Jazz Club, Comedy Theater, Sarasota Ballet, etc.

The Mote Aquarium on City Island has over 100 marine species on exhibit, working labs, and even a “touch pool”. Have your lunch at a 1950-style Deep Sea Diner, which has an affordable family menu. You can take a boat tour right from the Aquarium.
